Essay: Why I Signed Up For Reality TV Show, 'Love Thy Sister' by Ellen Rucker Carter

Before we get started, let me make one thing perfectly clear: I am not a celeb-u-tant.

I am a licensed chiropractor, successful entrepreneur and a mother. I am highly educated, confident, intelligent and driven; and, up until a short time ago, I had absolutely no desire to be on television - reality or otherwise. So when my sisters and I were approached about opening our homes to camera crews so that our lives could be documented and broadcast for a national viewing audience, I was skeptical to say the least.

Rucker Sisters Dish About Starring in WEtv’s ‘Love Thy Sister’ on the Charlotte Observer

Fans of the WEtv docu-soap reality show “Love Thy Sister” know that drama follows the Rucker sisters like students surround the hardwood at Cameron Indoor Stadium, with fervor and completely. 

The six-episode reality series debuted in January and offered viewers an inside view into their high-profile, high-energy and very high-volume – lots of arguing and squealing – daily lives. Originally from Lancaster, S.C., Ruby, Ellen and Ione Rucker now live in Union County. 

Ruby (Cooper), a Charlotte attorney, is nicknamed the “Hothead.” She lives up to her moniker, frequently jabbing and bickering with Ellen (Carter) about her choice in men.
